The project, led by contracts manager, Stuart McKinnon, involved a full replacement of the roofs on two villas located on the grounds of Redhills and to include new gutters, timberwork and new wall plates. Thermal installation within the buildings was also upgraded and the chimney stacks repointed.

With works on heritage buildings being a speciality of Hodgson Sayers, five heritage-trained slaters were assigned to the project to salvage the old slates when stripping the roofs and locate matching second-hand slates from reclamation yards across the North East and Yorkshire to make up the shortfall.

The programme duration for the project was approximately 10 weeks.

Located within a conservation area, the Miners Hall was a main hub for activity during the decades of profitable coal mining in the region. Hodgson Sayers was able to restore the villas back to former glory for future generations to visit and learn about the history of the industry, that so many in the community, at that time, worked in.
