Both our managing director and executive chairman were apprentices. So, when we say we 100% guarantee a job to all those who complete their training with us, we mean it!
It is vitally important to us that we are able to train youngsters from the local area and provide them with full time employment at the end of their apprenticeships.
It takes time and dedication from both the apprentices and company to be able to achieve a strong working relationship. All our apprentices are more than willing and eager to learn the trade and we are proud to see them go from strength-to-strength.
Nurturing and developing the career of talented youngsters is a top priority and each year we set a target of making apprentices 10% of our workforce. They give a fresh perspective and through their enthusiasm and enquiring minds they stimulate other, more experienced colleagues. That mix of experience and young talent can be very powerful. Treated well and encouraged to develop, apprentices are outstanding, long term assets.
We hire apprentices across all areas of the business. It is not just within the traditional trades of slating, tiling, bricklaying and flat roofing but also within our administrative and finance departments. We hire our apprentices at the same time each year so that they have the chance to start their career together and share the learning experience. They are each assigned a mentor who supports them along their journey.
Going forward, we will continue to work closely with local schools and colleges to help offer advice and encouragement to youngsters with a positive mind-set. We are proud to say that many of our team started their careers with us as apprentices and are still here 20 years later. This is our journey and our legacy for the North East economy — getting people onto a success-ful career path!
