The works undertaken, led by contracts manager, Paul Pugh, was a civil project and involved upgrading the substation from 9Kv to 11Kv, renewing transformers to allow more power into the substation, including the replacement of the existing GRP units which were removed and new brickwork built as replacement.
This project was part of a wider strategy to modernise the Powergrid of the country, generating more sustainable energy for future generations.
The project was a significant undertaking for the eight experienced employees assigned to complete works.
The team faced a number of challenges which they overcame, including the addition of a new drain which meant digging 2.7 metres underground and installing protective shoring to ensure the safety of the workforce.
The programme duration for the project was approximately 30 weeks.
