Contract wins strengthen foothold within the educational sector
Award-winning, Stanley-based, roofing specialist, Hodgson Sayers, has cemented its position as best-in-class following a raft of contract wins in the education sector.
In a contract with Bishop Wilkinson Multi Academy Trust, Hodgson Sayers is currently completing works at St Cuthbert’s primary school, Chester-le-Street. This includes partial reroofing of the building and a full strip and recover of its existing deck, installing steel beams and a new felt roof covering.
The company, which employs over 100 staff, has also recently finished the first phase of extensive works at St Joseph’s senior school, Hebburn, for Bishop Chadwick Multi Academy Trust. Undertaken during the six-week holidays, the contract included liquid coatings to the existing single ply roof coverings which were deteriorating and leading to water ingress to the building. A team of eight operatives was utilised and it is the third project with the Trust, having already completed works on St Mary’s primary school, Jarrow, and St Leonard’s primary school, in Sunderland.
The second phase of the project at St Joseph’s, which involves repairs to the other half of the school’s roof, will be finished by summer 2025.
Hodgson Sayers, which is regularly contracted to complete works at a number of the region’s universities, including a project that is actively underway at Durham University’s LSSU building, has also been contracted by Bishop Chadwick Multi Academy Trust to carry out a roofing pitch strip and recover on St Aloysius church, Hebburn.
Hodgson Sayers is a specialist roofing, building maintenance and security products company, that operates across the UK from its headquarters in Stanley, County Durham and a base in Nottingham. It employs a mix of highly skilled operatives including contracts managers, joiners, roofers and bricklayers, who service the needs of a diverse client base, the majority of whom are in the public sector and the utilities, housing, heritage, education and healthcare.
Darren Burns, contracts manager, Hodgson Sayers, said: “We are very well positioned, in that we have a large team that is highly skilled and directly employed. This means we can run our own schedule and easily make adjustments, if required, such as adding extra manpower to a project, to make sure things run as smoothly and painlessly for our customers. This is especially beneficial when a quick turnaround is needed, for example, during the school summer holidays. Our diligent contracts managers make sure each project is carefully planned out to allow for almost any eventuality, including weather disruption, delivered on time and to budget.”
John Sayers, managing director, Hodgson Sayers, said: “Our growing foothold for works undertaken within the region’s education sector is due to our exceptional operational teams, focused management and the high quality we bring to the projects we deliver. Our aim is always to complete work to the highest standard and with the minimum amount of disruption so that it is as close as possible to ‘business as usual’ for our clients.
“The education sector places great emphasis on sustainability because these buildings need to hold value for money and not drain funds away from other vital areas. Hodgson Sayers is known throughout the North East and beyond for delivering projects that stand the test of time and provide real cost-effective solutions in the long term. We like to think that our customers know, when they come to us, they are not getting a plaster applied to a problem, they are getting a solution that will protect the integrity of their buildings for many years to come.”
