Hodgson Sayers undertakes construction work ranging from groundworks and bricklaying to joinery and internal refurbishment. Working on new build, reactive repairs or planned maintenance the ethos is to deliver a first class job right, first time.
BIM (Building Information Modelling)
The building industry over the years has had a poor reputation for cost and time overruns which has never been more evident than on publically funded projects, so much so that successive governments have commissioned reports that have concluded that the industry needs to change.
Quotes from the Latham & Egan reports:
Sir Michael Latham — Constructing the Team (1994)
“Partnering includes the concepts of teamwork between supplier and client, and of total continuous improvement. It requires openness between the parties, ready acceptance of new ideas, trust and perceived mutual benefit.”
Sir John Egan — Rethinking Construction (1998)
“Improved components, materials and construction methods, including standardisation and pre-assembly and new technology such as 3D object-oriented modelling and global positioning systems.”
It is our aim to continue to be innovative and to think outside the box. We want to be challenged and to challenge ourselves so that we can push boundaries that will enhance our growth.
We identified the requirement and the benefits of BIM technologies. However, the building refurbishment sector did not seem to be well served. Hodgson Sayers felt there was a definite requirement to service our existing and potential client needs.
Working in partnership with Teesside University, we developed a business case to progress the commercialisation of this niche area and gained funding from Innovate UK for a Knowledge Transfer Partnership. The objective is to create and embed a bespoke business intelligence platform that can be shared and practised by everyone within the company and also shared with other businesses or contractors if required.
