‘Working at Hodgson Sayers has helped boost my confidence,’ business admin apprentice, Jessica Herron

Away from work, I really enjoy socialising with my friends. I relax by taking time out, venturing into a virtual reality through my Play Station and like most people, I enjoy a good holiday. Marmaris, in Turkey is a particular favourite. The people are very welcoming, the scenery is stunning and the food is delicious.

I joined the Hodgson Sayers team as a business admin apprentice in October 2018. I work within a very supportive environment alongside three great women, office manager, Marie Errington and administrators, Denise Fail and Emily Stevenson.

As part of my level 2 business administration apprenticeship with Derwentside College, my tutor is in regular contact and visits the office once a month. I also learn a lot from my immediate team particularly, Marie, who often guides me with my studies.

I am actively encouraged to ask questions and the company supports me when it comes to my studies. Every day is different but the role mainly sees me offering customer and employee support. Keeping well-organised files and records of business activity is important and I also handle costings and update company spreadsheets.

When I joined Hodgson Sayers I really didn’t like answering the phone – I was very nervous. However, as time has progressed, I feel a lot more confident and it has become just part of my role.

As far as to what the future might bring, I am taking each day at a time but I know I would like to progress my career within the company.
