Stanley Storm shows a ‘net’ gain in membership

We are delighted to learn that our near neighbours at Stanley Storm Netball club is proving such a great success. Not only are all its teams doing so well, membership is increasing all the time.

Established in 2013, the club originated from the England netball health netball initiative, ‘Back to Netball’. However, due to the departure of its coach the club’s future was uncertain.

When approached by one of the club captains to see if we could provide some funding for its three teams – Thunder, Lightning and Hurricanes over a three month period – we were more than happy to assist with the request.

The three month window enabled the teams to hire a sports hall and provide the club with the opportunity to pay and train club members to become coaches so that they could become self-sufficient. The club is now training members to become C Award Umpires.

Such is Stanley Storm’s success that it has grown from one team to five, adding Tornadoes and Blizzard to the family. It now offers its members a 90 minute training session on Monday night at the Louisa Centre in Stanley. The first 30 minutes is mainly skills and fitness training followed by an hour of netball.

It is fantastic to hear that the impact of the club has had a really beneficial impact on the player’s health and wellbeing. We hear that fitness levels have gone through the roof.

With 14 new members in the last month alone, we are proud to be a supporter of the club as they continue to progress in their respective leagues.

Keep up your fantastic efforts! To find out more about the club why not follow them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Stanleystormnetballclub/
