My HND journey is complete! After five years of hard work and studying I am delighted that I have achieved a merit in my HND on Construction and the Built Environment.
Having started at the company 16 years ago as an apprentice joiner, I was determined to be successful and the best way to do that was via achieving qualifications.
Five years ago, I began what feels like a very long road of studying. I successfully completed an ONC -BTEC Diploma in Construction and the Built environment before progressing to a two-year HNC course and then completing the HND.
It has not been easy. Juggling a young family, work and college has been very challenging. For the past few months I have spent many a Saturday studying at college and lots of late nights completing assignments.
I also had my role as a site manager whilst attending college one day a week. My phone would often be going off in lectures as I picked up any queries or demands from the site.
I was very determined to complete the studying and as part of my personal progression I would like to step up to the next level and do a site-based course. This would involve me building an on-site portfolio to prove my competency in the job. Although, the last essay is not yet a distant memory!
Achieving the HND has been a confidence boost for myself as well as providing me with invaluable knowledge. It has changed the way that I now work and think on sites through a new outlook and approach.
I am pleased with what I have achieved since I joined as a 16-year old lad. My options have opened up in front of me and at some point in the future university could be factored in.
I would like to thank the company as it has enabled me to pursue the qualifications and will hopefully continue to support me as part of my lifelong learning plan.
