We are very proud to announce David Crank as the Regional SkillBuild Champion of 2018, representing Hodgson Sayers and Newcastle College in the Slating and Tiling category, held on the 26th April at Newcastle College.
David competed against college students from Newcastle and Edinburgh to win the regional title.
Also In the competition were our apprentices, Baily Goyns and Jordan Condren, who performed brilliantly on the day just falling short of the top three positions. Both agreed it had been a great experience with Jordan particularly looking forward to competing in next year’s competition.
David joined Hodgson Sayers in February 2014 where he was initially employed as a site labourer and continually enquired about becoming an apprentice. Due to his persistence and performance on-site he was accepted onto the Hodgson Sayers apprentice programme in November 2016.
In 2017, he reached the final of the Redland Apprentice of the Year competition, representing both Hodgson Sayers and the region.
David now has a nervous wait to see if the points he scored on the day are high enough to get him into the national final where the top eight point scorers in the country will compete against each other. This will take place in Birmingham later this year. We have our fingers crossed for David and wish him the best of luck
Managing director, John Sayers, said: “We are very pleased at David’s personal success, his determination and positive attitude mixed with his natural talent for the trade, continues to shine through.
“All of our apprentices are a credit to themselves and the managers who mentor them. Keep up the good work and we have our fingers crossed for David.”
